The City of Fortuna has applied to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, San Francisco District, for a 10-year Department of the Army Permit to discharge fill material into jurisdictional waters of the United States associated with correction of an ongoing flooding problem. The project would reduce flooding from Rohner Creek, incorporate seismic upgrades, and improve habitat along the target reach of Rohner Creek. The project is located within the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) floodplain and the incorporated limits of the City of Fortuna, on the east side of Highway 101, Humboldt County, California.
