The United States Fish and Wildlife Service, Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge has applied to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, San Francisco District, for a Department of the Army Permit to discharge fill material into jurisdictional waters of the United States associated with the restoration of salt marsh habitat on diked former tidelands. The project site, known as the White Slough Unit (WSU), lies to the direct west of U.S. Route 101 at Tompkins Hill Road, approximately five miles south of the City of Eureka, Humboldt County, California.
