Stanford University has applied to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) San Francisco District, for a Department of the Army Permit for a revised Searsville Watershed Restoration Project on Stanford-owned lands throughout the San Francisquito Creek Watershed in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, California. Stanford proposes to modify Searsville Dam and Reservoir and restore reaches of Corte Madera Creek and San Francisquito Creek upstream and downstream of the dam, expand Felt Reservoir, and upgrade the existing San Francisquito Creek pump station. The purpose of the Project is to restore hydrogeomorphic processes, riparian habitat, and fish passage conditions within the upper San Francisquito Creek watershed; to avoid increasing future flood risk associated with Searsville Reservoir filling with sediment, and to replace Searsville Reservoir’s historic non-potable water storage and supply while improving seismic safety at Felt Reservoir.

On January 8, 2026, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) published a final action in the Federal Register 91 FR 768 announcing the reissuance of 56 existing nationwide permits (NWPs) and one new NWP, as well as the reissuance of NWP general conditions and definitions with some modifications. These 57 NWPs will go into effect on March 15, 2026, and will expire on March 15, 2031. One NWP was not reissued.

The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has applied to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) San Francisco District to modify the existing Regional General Permit (RGP) 44 Shoreline Structures Repair Program at SFO in San Mateo County, California. The purpose of the RGP is to maintain 13 pier- and pile-supported structures around the perimeter of SFO. The proposed modification would allow the removal/replacement of damaged piles and would increase the number of maintenance projects allowed per year and over the life of the program. The San Francisco District will receive written comments on the proposed work, as outlined above, until January 17, 2026. Remove approximately 40,000 cubic yards (cys) of sediment from the 1.675-acre (approximately) harbor in a single dredge episode. Existing depths range from -12 to -37 feet mean lower low water (MLLW) in the Harbor. The design depth for the Habor is -20 to -50 feet MLLW plus an additional 2-foot overdredge allowance. The material would be removed using a clamshell or hydraulic dredge and removed by barge to a permitted beneficial reuse site.
