UKIAH, Calif. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Mendocino has closed the North

and South Boat Launch facilities, effective Tuesday, Aug. 13. The southern beach area known

as “Jet Ski Beach” is also now closed to vehicle traffic.

These closures are necessary to ensure visitor safety due to low water levels. Visitors with

kayaks, canoes and other portable boats are welcome to carry their boats to the water.

For more information on these closures, call the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lake

Mendocino Office at (707) 467-4200.

[About the San Francisco District]

Established in 1866, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District employs

approximately 300 people, who are responsible for 40,000 square miles extending 600 miles

from the Oregon border to San Luis Obispo County. The district’s programs and projects

support approximately 1,000 permanent, higher-wage jobs that contribute to more than $100

million to the regional economy.

The district helps build the nation’s long-term economic strength in an environmentallysustainable

way through water-supply management and flood-damage reduction, shore and

coastal protection, ecosystems restoration and wildlife protection. The district works in

partnership with local, state and federal agencies. District staff respond with emergency

operations for natural disasters, regulate development that affects waterways and wetlands,

and keeps navigation channels, harbors and ports open for the more than 100 million tons of

cargo shipped to area deep-water ports.
