SAN FRANCISCO - (Sept. 24, 2014) - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District Deputy Commander Maj. (P) Adam J. Czekanski received the Soldier's Medal from South Pacific Division Commander Brig. Gen. Mark Toy for his actions of valor and heroism earlier this year when he jumped onto the tracks as a commuter train was approaching to save a fellow rider who had fallen due to an apparent seizure. Czekanski's wife, Wendi, daughter Annabelle and son Nicholas joined him during the presentation of the Army's highest award for valor in non combat. Czekanski, who has served three combat tours; two in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, has also received three Bronze Star medals one Purple Heart medal.
