SAN FRANCISCO - (Sept. 4, 2014) - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District Deputy Commander Maj. (P) Adam J. Czekanski received the Soldier's Medal today for his actions of valor and heroism earlier this year when he jumped onto the tracks as a commuter train was approaching to save a fellow rider who had fallen due to an apparent seizure. His son, Nicholas, shot a few photos of his hero father as Czekanski's wife, Wendi and daughter Annabelle look on. The Soldier's Medal is the Army's highest award for valor in a non combat situation. Czekanski, who has served three combat tours; two in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, has also received three Bronze Star medals one Purple Heart medal. He credits his years of military training as he quickly assessed the situation and jumped into action to save a stranger while placing himself in imminent danger.
