SAN FRANCISCO - (Sept. 4, 2014) - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District Deputy Commander Maj. (P) Adam J. Czekanski received the Soldier's Medal today for his actions of valor and heroism earlier this year when he jumped onto the tracks as a commuter train was approaching to save a fellow rider who had fallen due to an apparent seizure. Annabelle, his daughter takes a look at his medal. T he Soldier’s Medal is the Army's highest award for valor in a non combat situation. Czekanski, a native of Buffalo, N.Y., has served three combat tours, two in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, has also received three Bronze Star medals one Purple Heart medal. He has served the Army for 16 years since receiving his commission after graduating from the Army ROTC program at Cornell University.
