Bay Farm Island Dike, Sec. 103 (CAP)

BAY FARM ISLAND DIKE, CALIFORNIA
CONTINUING AUTHORITY, SECTION 103

PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION

This study is located on Bay Farm Island, in the City of Alameda, CA.  The study area covers approximately 5,000 linear feet of Bay Farm Island Shoreline Dike, which runs from the Oakland International Airport dike to the westernmost end of Bay Farm Island.  This study addresses storm-related wave damage to the coastline, flood inundation at the coastline and in the lagoon system, and disruption of vehicular and ferry traffic.  Existing rock armoring (riprap), which was damaged during a storm in 2005, was designated to provide erosion protection for the bank, a granite public walkway, pump house, and valves that regulate water flow to a series of lagoons in the interior of Bay Farm Island.  These lagoons are bordered by residences, roadways, and businesses.  The pump houses, which regulate the lagoon water levels, are critical to preventing flooding and inundation.
