OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE

PROJECT LOCATION AND Description

The San Leandro Marina is part of the San Leandro Shoreline Recreation Area, which is located on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay just south of the Oakland International Airport. This project encompasses a shallow-draft channel used predominantly for light commercial and recreational navigation. The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) schedule provides for an annual inspection and periodic repair of the breakwater structure and a four-year cycle of maintenance dredging of the Main Access Channel to depths of -6 and -7 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) and the Interior Auxiliary Channels to -7 feet MLLW.

FY 19 ACCOMPLISHMENTS (based on the availability of funds)

  • Conduct breakwater inspection.
  • Complete Dredged Material Management Plan Preliminary Analysis

FY 19 AND FY 20 ACCOMPLISHMENTS (based on the availability of funds)

  • Complete Dredged Material Management Plan if neccesary
  • Conduct a condition survey of the channel and initiate environmental sampling and testing and preliminary engineering and design for maintenance dredging.
  • Complete environmental coordination for maintenance dredging.

ISSUES AND OTHER INFORMATION

  • The City of San Leandro is the Non-Federal Sponsor (NFS).
  • The project was dredged in FY 09 utilizing ARRA funding. At the request of the NFS, dredging was limited to the removal of 90,000 cubic yards to minimize the volume of material placed in the NFS-provided upland site.  At that time, the project depth was reduced to a depth of -5 feet MLLW; consequently, full project dimensions were not achieved.
