COYOTE AND BERRYESSA CREEKS
CONSTRUCTION
PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
The Berryessa Creek element consists of approximately two miles of channel improvements, floodwalls and a railroad bridge replacement. The project will reduce the risk of flooding in highly populated areas, various industrial parks, and increase the reliability of key transportation corridors. The project is located in San Jose and Milpitas, in Santa Clara County, California. The Director’s Report and Record of Decision for the Berryessa Creek element were completed in May 2014 and the Design Agreement was executed in July 2014.

FY 20 AND FY 21 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Tree/Shrub mitigation planting completed. Continue with maintenance of sites to ensure survival of mitigation sites.
- Provide NFS with final OMM&R Manual. Project turnover completed in FY18 with draft OMM&R manual.
- Close out construction contract.
- Begin project close out.
ISSUES AND OTHER INFORMATION
- The Santa Clara Valley Water District is the non-Federal Sponsor (NFS).
- Construction completed on schedule in December 2017.
- Construction was completed within the required time frame and had no impacts to the operational start of the Milpitas Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station, part of the Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Corridor (SVRTC) project as requested by the NFS.
- The Coyote Creek element of the Coyote and Berryessa Creeks project was physically complete in April 1997.
- The City of Milpitas filed a claim against the US Army Corps of Engineers, for damages to an adjacent landscaping area, which was denied by Office of Counsel in 2018.
- The City of Milpitas submitted an extensive punch list of issues to the NFS. Construction contractor has been responsive to corrections, however, there are a few items that need further investigation before resolution.
