CONTRA COSTA WATER DISTRICT
ENVIRONMENTAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM, SECTION 219
PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
Contra Costa Canal is located in Contra Costa County, approximately 55 miles east of San Francisco, California. This canal provides water for municipal, industrial, and agricultural purposes. The proposed project will improve the security and quality of the Contra Costa Water District’s (CCWD) fresh water source in the Contra Costa Canal. Specifically it will improve public safety, increase system security, reduce seepage into and out of the canal, and reducing flood risks along the unlined portion of the Contra Costa Canal. The proposed project involves installing up to 3.97 miles of buried pipeline in place of the existing unlined portion of the Contra Costa Canal.
