Fruitvale Ave. Railroad Bridge Disposition Study

PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION

The Fruitvale Avenue Railroad Bridge (RR Bridge) is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is a feature of the Oakland Harbor, CA, deep-draft navigation project. The RR Bridge traverses the Oakland Inner Harbor Tidal Canal between the Cities of Oakland and Alameda. The City of Alameda is concerned that the bridge, having been declared seismically unsafe, poses a significant risk to the adjacent Miller-Sweeney Road Bridge, including loss of critical emergency egress from the island and loss of life. In addition, the RR Bridge is no longer in use. A disposition study is required to analyze the best course of action (repair or removal).
