N HALF MOON BAY (PRINCETON), CALIFORNIA
CONTINUING AUTHORITIES PROGRAM, SECTION 111
PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
Pillar Point Harbor is located at the northern end of Half Moon Bay, approximately 25 miles south of San Francisco. The harbor is protected by two breakwaters, one of which runs east-west from the shore (East Breakwater). The easternmost portion of the harbor (including the East Breakwater) and the shoreline from that breakwater five miles south to Miramontes Point are within the boundary of the City of Half Moon Bay. In response to non-federal concerns, USACE conducted a 216 Initial Appraisal to determine what role the East Breakwater has played in causing the dramatic shoreline erosion that started when the breakwater was built. That Initial Appraisal concluded that the USACE should conduct this study to determine what steps (if any) it should take to eliminate or mitigate future erosion.
