PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
Oakland Harbor is located on the eastern shore of central San Francisco Bay immediately south of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in the City of Oakland. It is the third largest container port on the West Coast and the fifth largest in the nation. July 1998. This project deepened the authorized federal channels of the Oakland Harbor and Port-maintained berths to a depth of 42 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) to accommodate the then-newest generation of deep-draft container ships. The project was completed in July 1998.

ISSUES AND OTHER INFORMATION
- The Port of Oakland is the Non-Federal Sponsor (NFS).
- Although construction was completed in July 1998, the project remains fiscally open. After a 2008 audit was conducted jointly by USACE and the NFS, the resulting settlement agreement resulted in a determination that the Government owed the NFS $2,087,000 as a refund for project construction costs.
- Refund of $2,087,000 was made to the NFS in FY 2014 after receiving funds in the Work Plan for that fiscal year.
