PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION

Oakland Harbor is a high-use, deep-draft harbor located on San Francisco Bay in Alameda County, California. The project includes Inner and Outer Harbors and a jetty. The project includes monitoring the Sonoma Baylands Wetland Demonstration Site and reimbursement to Alameda County for operation and maintenance of the Fruitvale Avenue railroad bridge.

FY 22 accomplishments

  • Annual maintenance dredging of the Inner and Outer Harbor Channels. FY22 involved thorough coordination with the SF Bay Long Term Management Strategy Agencies to conduct an alternate, relative equivalent, to the Federal Standard and placed material in-Bay and at a contractor-furnished upland beneficial reuse site.
  • Operation and maintenance of the Fruitvale Avenue railroad bridge, including extensive inspections and surveys of damage caused by barge crane collision and deteriorated mooring dolphin piles. PDT also responded to Representative Lee’s recommendation letters to conduct a disposition study to address the growing liabilities as time passes.
  • Environmental monitoring at Deep Ocean Disposal Site and Sonoma Baylands Wetlands Demonstration Site.
  • Costal structures inspection.

FY 23 accomplishments

  • Funds will be used for annual maintenance dredging of the Inner and Outer Harbor Channels. The PDT will seek to utilize 1122 funds to place all eligible dredged material in an approved beneficial use site.
  • Amount also includes annual operation and maintenance of the Fruitvale Avenue railroad bridge, environmental monitoring at Deep Ocean Disposal Site and Sonoma Baylands Wetlands Demonstration Site, and a jetty inspection.
  • Funds will be used for commonly performed maintenance dredging of the Inner and Outer Harbor Channels, and real estate management of the inner harbor tidal canal.

ISSUES AND OTHER INFORMATION

  • The Port of Oakland is the major container facility in San Francisco Bay area and is a National Strategic Port.  The project was recently deepened to -50-feet MLLW from -42-feet MLLW.
