OCEAN BEACH SHORELINE
INVESTIGATIONS
PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
Ocean Beach forms the western boundary of the city of San Francisco, California, and extends 3.3 miles along the Pacific Ocean. The City of San Francisco is the local sponsor and desires Corps assistance with developing and implementing a suitable long-term coastal storm damage prevention plan. The beach itself is part of the larger National Park Service Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and is recognized as a uniquely valuable coastal resource within an urban environment. San Francisco maintains municipal infrastructure on City property along the coastline including The Great Highway and the Lake Merced Sewage Transport Tunnel. The area falls within the jurisdiction of the California Coastal Commission under the California Coastal Act.
