The following are descriptions of volunteer positions currently available at the Bay Model:
Docent: We are looking for individuals to lead tours and present educational programs, which provide general information about the Bay Model and the San Francisco Bay/Delta region for our visitors. Educational programs and tours can also be developed that are geared to specific topics such as agriculture in the Delta, wetland restoration, water diversions, hydraulic engineering, or community involvement and stewardship. Being comfortable speaking to large groups and communicating concisely are desired and a commitment of at least 2 tours a month is required.
Visitor Services Specialist: We are looking for individuals who can greet visitors, answer phones as needed, stock brochure tables, operate a cash register and assist in the Bay Model Association bookstore, answer questions about the Bay Model, San Francisco Bay and Delta, and the local area, and assist in the daily operations of the Visitor Center. A minimum of 3 hours a week is desired.
Maintenance Assistant: We are looking for individuals who can assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the Bay Model and the warehouse that houses the Model. A minimum of 4 hours a week is desired and skills and duties include: light electrical, plumbing and carpentry work, painting, exhibit cleaning, development and construction of educational displays and exhibits, general maintenance as needed, ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner and self-directed. Safety training is required with the use of some equipment.
Marketing and Media Volunteer: We are looking for volunteer(s) who can assist with the development of efficient ways to advertise special programs and tours that we provide to the public. A minimum of 1-2 days a weeks is desired and duties include: experience in Marketing and Media (desired, but not required), computer skills with ability to operate MS Word, Excel, and Publisher, ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, ability to answer questions about and provide information about the Bay Model, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, San Francisco Bay and Delta and the local area, compile contact lists for mailings and e-mailings, and confirm public attendance to our events.
