Small game and turkey hunting is allowed as determined by the California Department of Fish and Game within the Wildlife Management Area on the East side of Lake Mendocino. All hunters must comply with all State, Federal, and local laws. The Wildlife Management Area can be accesssed through the Bushay Campground on the north, the Deerwood Gate on the south, or from the west by boat.

Please be aware that non-hunters including horse riders and mountain bikers also use this area.
Small Game

Small game season begins the third weekend of October and runs through January. Hunting is by shotgun only and limited to small game such as rabbit and squirrel as well as upland and migratory game birds including duck, dove, and quail.
Turkeys
Turkey hunting is allowed by special hunting permit only. These permits are issued by the California Department of Fish and Game through a lottery. Permits area available for a maximum of eight hunts a year and include adult and junior hunts. Check out the links below for more information on Special Turkey Hunts.
