MG Colloton and Col. Handura visit the SFVAMC
Maj. Gen. Kimberly Colloton made a stop Dec. 6, 2023, at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center during a quick swing to the West Coast. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers deputy commanding general for military and international operations toured the ongoing construction efforts at the medical center’s Building 8. She was joined by Col. James Handura, USACE South Pacific Division commander. The mid-afternoon site walk was led by project managers from the USACE San Francisco District and VA Office of Construction & Facilities Management, who are jointly overseeing the construction activities. In May 2023, SFVAMC and SPN commemorated the start of construction of the $49.9 million seismic retrofit project for Building 8, a mental health facility on campus that has served Bay Area veterans since 1932. Now the four-story building is receiving a much-needed upgrade to meet the seismic safety standards of today, while preserving its historic architecture. Overall, the SFVAMC Seismic Project consists of various phases including seismic renovations for three high-risk buildings, construction of a new research facility and parking garage and demolition of several buildings on campus.
